Springfield Futbol Club

Frequently asked questions

WHERE ARE YOU LOCATED?

All games and training sessions are at Community Homecoming Park, which is located at 7807 Angola Rd. in Holland, Ohio.  The 11v11 and 9v9 age divisions may also play games in surrounding communities.  There are two outdoor seasons that the Rec Academy offers: fall (beginning in September) and spring (beginning in April).  A winter season at the Maumee Soccer Centre may be offered between December and March.

WHEN ARE GAMES PLAYED?

Games are played on Saturdays, beginning as early as 8:30 AM and ending as late as 3:00 PM.  Games that need to be rescheduled may be played on a Sunday.

The 11v11 and 9v9 age divisions may also play games on Sundays. 7v7, 9v9, and 11v11 divisions may have a chance to play under the lights during the fall season.

WHEN IS TRAINING?

Training will be during the week, between 5:00 PM and 7:00 PM.  There is typically one hour of training per week.  Coaches will select the day and time for their training session.  During registration, you will have a chance to notify us of one day that won't work for you and we will do our best to honor that request.

WHEN CAN I SIGN MY PLAYER UP?

Registration for the spring season always begins in February, and registration for the fall season always begins in July.  There may also be winter indoor sessions offered.  Announcements for the opening of registration for all of our seasons will be made on our website and various social media fees.  We will also send an email out to all families who have previously played with SFC.

WHAT ARE THE FEES?

Player fees are for one season (i.e., fall or spring) of outdoor soccer and vary per age division.  The current player fees for a season are:

3v3 - $40
4v4 I - $40
4v4 II - $45
7v7 - $45
9v9 - $55
11v11 - $55

WHAT AGE DIVISION WILL MY CHILD BE IN?

SFC follows the US Soccer Federation (USSF) age recommendations for age divisions.  Age divisions are built around a player's birth year, not their grade or a cutoff date at the beginning of the season. For the soccer seasonal year beginning Fall 2023 and ending in Spring of 2024, the age divisions are:

3v3 - Players born in 2020
4v4 I - Players born in 2019, 2018
4v4 II - Players born in 2017, 2016
7v7 - Players born in 2015, 2014
9v9 - Players born in 2013, 2012, 2011
11v11 - Players born in 2010, 2009, 2008, 2007

*Age divisions may be realigned at the discretion of the SFC Board of Directors.
**Players may play "up" one age group if requested by a parent and approved by the SFC Board of Directors.  This will be approved based on the ability of the child to physically play at the higher age division.  Players may NOT play "down" under any circumstances.

WHAT SIZE BALL IS USED?

The size of the ball used for training sessions and games differs per age division, and the size of the ball matters, as a player using a ball that is too big will not only struggle with its size but also its increased weight.  Below is what each age division should use.

3v3 - Size 3
4v4 I - Size 3
4v4 II - Size 3
7v7 - Size 4
9v9 - Size 4
11v11 - Size 5

It is also very important that a player's ball is properly inflated.

WHAT ARE THE UNIFORM REQUIREMENTS?

The following are required as part of the SFC uniform:

  • Black/white reversible SFC Rec Academy jersey
  • Black shorts
  • Black or blue socks
  • Shin guards under the socks
  • Soccer cleats or tennis shoes

Soccer cleats are highly recommended but not required. Cleats for any other sport including baseball, softball, and football, are not permitted. Any sporting goods store can help you pick out legal soccer cleats.

WHAT CAN MY PLAYER WEAR IN COLD WEATHER?

Players are allowed to wear the following in cold weather:

  • Knit hats and gloves
  • Sweat pants or tights UNDER their shorts
  • Sweatshirts UNDER their jersey
  • Hoodies are allowed, but the hood must be tucked into the jersey at all times

Players are NOT allowed to wear the following at any time:

  • Jackets, coats, or anything with buttons or zippers

CAN I VOLUNTEER TO HELP OUT?

Yes!  There are many different opportunities to volunteer with SFC.  From serving on the Board, painting fields, and assisting on game day, to coaching a team, we can definitely use your help!

Having the proper number of coaches allows us to build desired roster sizes, so training sessions are manageable, and players receive plenty of playing time during games. You do not need to have a child playing to volunteer to coach, but, if you do have a child, your player will play for free.  If you are interested in coaching a team, you can sign up using the registration link on the home page.

We also have volunteer opportunities including (but not limited to) serving on the Board of Directors, laying out fields at the beginning of a season, weekly painting of fields, assisting on game day at the SFC garage, etc.  If you are interested in helping in any of these ways, please reach out to us at info@springfieldfc.club.
